This Week in Downend (W/C 8th February 2021)

This week in Downend, Nursery have been enjoying some water play inside, the children really enjoyed splashing and filling different containers and watching the water drop. Outside they continued water play, but this time the water was frozen! They used different utensils to break the ice, Brr! Back inside the children have been role playing in the kitchen making food and drinks for all their friends. They have also been celebrating, in advance, Valentines Day! They have been creating lots of different crafts as well as exploring their home made red playdough.

In Kindergarten this week the children have been learning all new motor skills by using their outside equipment, they learnt about pedalling and scooting. Whilst outside they also investigated ice and after being told how it is created watched how quickly it can melt away with warm water. Back inside Kindergarten created beautiful pictures with new shapes and materials, some children even ended up using their hands as the stamps! The children also got to learn some new maths skills such as measuring with rulers and different time concepts.

In Pre-School this week the children have been preparing for Valentines day by creating some heart pictures using pieces of red and pink tissue paper. The children talked about who was special to them and who they love. Pre-School have also been celebrating Chinese New Year! They decorated dragons with different coloured tissue paper and made them a body. The children spent time looking at the different symbols and tried to draw them. This year is the ‘Year of the Ox’ and they learnt all about different cultures and what they all celebrate. Happy Chinese New Year!
