This Week at Flax Bourton

Nursery

This week in Nursery we have been exploring the water play within the room and also outside! We were practicing our measuring and pouring using our fine motor skills, outside this helped us to be able to water the plants and an adult explained that adding water helps plants grow! We used the jugs, cups and watering cans to do this. We have also used the parachute and the xylophone to help us recognise our colours.

Some of the children have been downstairs in the cabin. They have been practicing their counting with the visual help of a colourful dice. We have also been completing animal styled puzzles to help recognise the animals visually. Back in the room, we have been dressing up as our favourite animals and pointing to them in one our most loved books ‘oh dear’!

This week has ended with us using our walker to practice walking around the room and role-play cooking for all of our friends to develop our language and communication abilities.

Kindergarten

In Kindergarten this week we have used lots of resources from the art area to create, mark make and explore. In the shaving foam we used paint brushes in sweeping motions to make different lines and patterns.

With the paint dabbers we looked at their colours and the way they splatted onto the paper as we stamped them down. We copied the adults by making repeated patterns of colours like red, blue, red, blue. We have also worked on our problem solving skills when completing puzzles. We have to look at the pieces and find parts of the pieces that are the same and then turn then about to get them to fit together. The adults help us by talking about the shape of the puzzle pieces or its size and tell us to turn it, turn it, give it a wiggle and in it goes.

Our core book this term is Handa’s Surprise. As a group we looked through and read the story and spoke about all the different animals that take the fruit such as the zebra, elephant and monkey. We then went on to find our animals in Kindergarten to match them up to the ones form the story. In the big garden we have played with our favourite thing. Water!! We love the process of splashing, scooping, pouring and mixing it up into a supersonic magic potion.

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School we have been braving the rain this week, and have put on our coats and gone in the garden! We have made many dens by of course using our brilliant loose parts area, and have even had the parachute out! Towards the end of the week the weather became lovely again so we spent our time in the water play area, using funnels and washing windows.

Inside we have been creating lovely pictures with our new art equipment such as painting, cutting and sticking. We have been learning lots about teeth cleaning, and how we should brush our teeth in the morning and night to keep them healthy. In the home corner many meals have been made that we followed from cook books in our book corner! To top the week off, we had a Pre-School picnic and listened to music. Well done for another lovely week!
