This Week at Flax Bourton

Nursery

This week in Flax Bourton, we have been enjoying the outside environment! We used our role play and imagination in the mud kitchen. We baked cakes and made drinks for our friends whilst an adult read our Core Book to all our friends. We enjoyed making food and drinks for the party in our book!

Whilst inside and in the rooftop garden we have enjoyed lots of sensory play. We loved looking through the different coloured mirrors and saying the colours we have been seeing. We have also been using our drawing skills on our blackboard!

We also explored downstairs at the fish tank, talking about their colours, what food they eat, how they need to live in the water and how the bubbles help them!

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten we have continued exploring in our home corner and developed our imaginative play! We like to pretend we are cooking, going to work or popping to the shops. These types of games help us develop our language skills and an awareness of different cultures and ways of life.

Lots of us this week have been focusing on our fine motor development by exploring activities such as cutting. We have to listen to the adults and make sure we are safe when using the scissors as they are sharp. It is a bit tricky to work out but we kept trying and listened to the instructions of the adults!

The adults have set up the tuff trays for us this week to continue to follow our interest in water play. We have explored the process of floating with the boats, emptying and filling with the jugs and funnels and splashing to makes waves in our welly boots!

Then in the garden we have played with the tyres. We would transport them around the garden by pushing them along. We had to negotiate obstacles and try to catch them before they rolled away. We also like to climb and explore the large play equipment such as the rope bridge. We need to hold on to the rope and move across by putting one foot in front of the other, but it's more fun to dangle from the rope like a cheeky monkey!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School we have been doing some baking! We headed over to the dining room to do make some shortbread biscuits. We were able to follow instructions:

  • Place 2 cups of flour into a bowl
  • Add 1 cup of butter and 1 cup of sugar to the bowl
  • Take turns to mix all the ingredients together.
  • Use a cutter to create a biscuit shape
  • We then gave our biscuits to Karenza to bake in the oven!

We have been doing lots of mark making this week. Katie wrapped some clingfilm around the table. We sat around the table and did some mark making on the clingfilm. We also have been doing some mark making at the table!

We have been really into our animal and dinosaurs this week. We created Jurassic dinosaur worlds using the wooden blocks!

We noticed that we have some runner beans on our beanstalks. Katie washed the runner beans and we even got to try them!
