This Week at Flax Bourton

Nursery

This week at nursery some of us took a festive trip to the local farm to decorate the Christmas tree with Red Bus decorations we had painted ourselves! We were so excited to see the Christmas tree and to touch it to see how it felt in our hands. With some help from Carys we hung the decorations one by one and stood back to admire it! We also got very excited when we saw a tractor drive past.

Back at Red Bus, we started by practicing our mark making - first in flour in the tuff tray using lolly pop sticks. We were encouraged by Jenny to move them around in the flour to make circles and lines we concentrated well and made some great marks all over the flour. We went on to do more mark making but this time on the black chalkboard, we held the chalks firmly in our hands and moved it up and down and around to make lines and dots on a snowman shape Jenny had drawn.

In the construction area we have been spending time building high towers with the foam blocks, we were encouraged to build them higher and higher counting the blocks while we did this, we were fascinated when the tower got so high it toppled down to the ground.

To finish off the week and carry on with the building activities, the adults provided us with blocks and foam in the tuff tray, we were encouraged to build houses using the blocks as walls and the foam to hold it together, we got stuck right in and enjoyed the process of creating something using different media and materials.

On the last day of we had more fun with the foam when Carys made us snow to watch fall through the sky we said wow!

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten the Christmas spirit has spread throughout all our activities! At the beginning of the week, we started with some Christmas card making, where we got to show off our amazing artistic and creative skills.

We also decorated some handmade star trinkets which they enjoyed painting with shiny glitter! We're so excited to take these home to hang on our Christmas trees.

Kindergarten also took a trip to Gatcombe Farm to enter a community competition to decorate our own Christmas tree. We loved making different baubles and trinkets to hang on the branches!

Later in the week, Kindergarten discovered an assault course with cars out on the decking - which involved great physical coordination and dexterity, and gross motor skills. Kindergarten very much enjoyed engaging and interacting with their fellow friends and making a game of racing cars down the black ramp! What a fun week it has been!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School we have been feeling festive! We showed off our baking skills by making fresh mince pies with the help of our Elf - they were delicious!

Also this week we have been making 'Reindeer Food' for Rudolph and his friends - natural food which included bird seed with crunchy carrots and oats. We know Rudolph and his friends will be hungry after delivering all the presents to everyone!

Next we designed our reindeer using clay and pipe cleaners, and of course remembering to add a shiny red nose to guide Santa's sleigh.
