This Week at Downend

Nursery

This week in Nursery we've started celebrating 'Halloween Month'! We decorated pumpkins, bats and ghosts. We added glue, paint and tissue paper which we loved getting involved in.

We also explored sand play this week, enjoying the repetition of filing and emptying containers and using our hands to pick up the sand!

We also really enjoyed making homemade pizza! We followed instructions from Daisy and Chelsea really well, and decided for ourselves which toppings to pick - tomatoes, peppers, sweetcorn, yummy! We focused really well on picking up the small pieces and deliberately placing them on our crust.

Kindergarten

As the weather is starting to get colder and wetter, in Kindergarten we been discussing what we need to wear in the cold and wet weather! We talked about how we need to wear our waterproof coats and wellies when it's raining, and even hats and gloves when it's really cold.

Some of us have been exploring our independence and self-care by learning to put our coats on! This can be a little tricky but with adult support, we managed it. We then had lots of fun playing in the garden! We particularly loved splashing in the puddles.

Back inside we enjoyed playing with the sensory tray. There
was flour, sequins, salt, pasta cotton buds, and pipe cleaners. We were able to feel the different textures of the materials. We used the scoops to pick up the materials!

We have also been playing with play-dough. The play-dough has been very stretchy this week! We learned what ingredients are used to make and enjoyed rolling the play dough and using the cutters. The children also enjoy making little balls with the play dough.

Pre-School

Pre-School has had a full week of exploration and investigation! We were encouraged to explore with some items from the fire station role play - including uniforms, hats and a pop-up fire engine! We talked lots about the fire service, and how they help us.

We also had lots of water play outside this week! We loved the filling and emptying of the containers, and created a game where we 'washed' our toy animals! We decided these animals were our pets as we scrubbed them clean.

Mark making, mathematical play, jigsaws and 'treasure sequin hunts' have been popular too!
