This Week at Downend

Nursery

This week Nursery have been joining in with activities from their core book about “The Noisy Farm”! They have been exploring the tuff tray with lots of different farm animals. The children were able to identify the animals such as the pig, cow, sheep, and horse. They have also been feeding the animals cornflakes and hay! They have been looking at books about different animals, opening and closing the flaps noticing what animals are behind each one. We used hand puppets while signing 'Old Macdonald Had a Farm'.

We have also enjoyed some technology toys to learn about e-safety, where the children have been pressing different buttons on the phone, putting the phone to their ears, and saying “hiya”!

In the art studio, we have been getting messy with lots of free-flow painting where we used different painting utensils such as paint brushes, rollers, and stamps. The children independently picked what they wanted to use and created wonderful marks on the paper and mixing colours.

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten children have been busy playing with the small-world animals, using them to paint and make their footprints onto paper!

We have also been creating cool structures. The children independently chose to use the magnetic cubes and the wooden blocks for this. The structures we made looked so good!

We have also been focusing on our emotions, we looked at mirrors to see our facial expressions – some children said they were tired, happy, or worried. We learned that it was okay to feel happy and to feel sad.

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School we have been busy visiting our surroundings and local community! We walked to Lincombe Barn. On the walk we saw the start of the change in season, we noticed the daffodils, crocuses, and lots of other plants. At the park, we explored the play equipment before enjoying a picnic snack!

Pre-School's core book this term is “The Snail & The Whale” so we played a matching game, where we matched the pictures to items of the story!

This week is also National Nest Box Week, so we made bird feeders to hang up in trees.
