This week at Downend, babies have been exploring minibeasts in the rooftop garden! The children went on a scavenger hunt for the different insects that had been hidden around. The children looked carefully at the map, linking the images they could see to the real life toys they found – amazing! Back inside the children have been exploring the sensory books, being encouraged to pick up and touch each page – discovering the different textures and noises they make!
Kindergarten this week have been spending lots of time in the garden kitchen, exploring the real life resources. The children had lots of fun filling up the kettle and pouring it out, and experimenting with pressing the buttons in the microwave. Insects have also been a theme here this week, as the children excitedly discovered a shield bug! The children carefully looked at it, and further developed their interests by taking out the toy insects and looking at bug-themed books. In the garden the children have been exploring the hoops, trying to throw them onto cones! This activity is great for balance, coordination and motor skills – and the children get a great boost of confidence when they manage to hit the target!
This week Pre-School have been very autumnal! The children went on a nature walk, searching around the front garden to see what they could find. The children discovered conkers, fallen twigs and lots of different coloured leaves. They even found a cobweb – but left that alone, as they did not want to disturb the spider! Back inside the children explored creating with the natural resources, working together to create a beautiful Autumn tray, hand shaped hedgehogs and painted trees! In the main room some children got stuck into a Three Little Pigs themed activity. The children had hay, wood, and bricks to explore!
