This Week at Coombe Dingle

Nursery

This week in the Nursery suite the children have been getting creative using paint rollers to create marks and patterns using paint. The paper was sealed inside a zip lock bag and the children watched as their moments made marks. The children learned about cause and effect and created beautiful art works.

In the extension a group of children joined in to play parachute games. They threw the parachute up high working together as a team to get the parachute high into the sky. They then also hid under the parachute and played hide and seek “peek a boo” this supported children’s large gross motor movements as well as their social skills.

The children explored the roof top garden using their fine gross motor skills to by using the nets to scoop up the balls floating on the top of the water. Some children even made a big splash in the tuff tray! Whilst catching the balls some children recognised certain colours ”red” encouraging the children’s colour recognition.

Kindergarten

The Kindergarten children have also become little artists this week using playdough cutters to paint and make marks, we love to get messy! Children pointed out familiar shapes and objects that they recognised as well as relating them to their own personal experiences “I like dinosaurs” they also created marks using their hands and mixed different colours together to make new colours.

In the top garden the children recreated one of their favourite stories “we’re going on a bear hunt” by using teddies from the Kindergarten room and navigating the top garden to find the hidden teddies. Some children decided to work together to find the teddies hidden away and showed a sense of accomplishment when they found them.

Also in the top garden the children have found a new way to get cool! Kayleigh very kindly brought in a turtle sprinkler and the children tried different manoeuvres to interact with the sprinkler. They ran, jumped and even tried to catch the water using their hands. What a fantastic way to play in the sun!

Pre-School

With school soon approaching for some of us, our core book this term is “The Colour Monster”. During a small time together the children drew their own interpretations of the colour monster and used colours to relate to certain emotions. Children also used their monster to speak about different emotions through illustrations and different mixed media resources.

The children have been participating in different garden games that support their hand eye coordination as well as their physical development. Within the top garden they took turns to compete in egg and spoon races where they tried to make it to the finish line without dropping the eggs! They worked out they would need to move slowly and carefully hold the spoon s not to drop the egg! Another way in which they practiced balancing was by balancing a bean bag on their head. We love a healthy completion and everyone was a good sport!

Pre-School also enjoyed the sun by using the shadows created from the sun to trace pictures. They used different animals from different habitats and carefully drew round them to mimic the shapes. The children also discovered that they could move their bodies to create different shadow formations and point these out whilst in motion.
