This Week at Coombe Dingle

Nursery

This week in Nursery we explored the Cooking Station! We went all the way downstairs to the dining room where we cut and peeled our own fruit to make delicious banana and apple smoothies. Yummy!

Upstairs in the Art Studio we have been creating autumnal pictures! We added our finger prints to a tree, carefully pressing them around the branches to create a beautiful collaborative masterpiece!

We've also been visiting the top garden! We really enjoyed reading in the outdoor book nook and finding different animals and seeing what we can see in the book and all of the different pages.

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten we made some monster cakes! We read one of our Core Book Series 'Monsters love Underpants' and created some rice krispy cakes inspired by the story. We did a great job of mixing all the ingredients together using our strong arm muscles, and then carefully drawing on the eyes with icing!

We've also been developing our amazing imaginations with playdough! We made all sorts of different creations, shaping the dough with our hands - hedgehogs, lollipops, and pancakes!

In the gorgeous Autumn sunshine we have been playing outside! The adults incorporated the multicoloured fabric into our play, we ran up and down with it trailing behind us and realised they looked like superhero capes! We also enjoyed playing hide and seek using the fabric as a clever hiding place!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School we made mooncakes to celebrate Mid-Autumn festival! Leona told us the story about Chang'E, a lady who took an elixir and floated up to the moon. Her husband would prepare all the food she liked to commemorate her on that day every year and mooncake is one of her favourite!

Leona told us the three main ingredients of a mooncake - salted egg yolk, lotus paste and pastry. Then we started to make our own one, using the cutter to shape them round like a full moon. We were so proud of our work and we also introduced new ingredients and recipes to our friends who had not heard of it before!

We also created some big, bright moon pictures! We used sponges to print our paint as well as cotton wool and tin foil. We then stuck our moon onto some black paper and made some stars!

Autumn is here and we have loved exploring how nature has been changing. During Time Together, Becky asked us if we had been conker picking - some of us had! Becky then explained how conkers grow from a tree called a 'Horse Chestnut' and then they fall to the ground inside a case. After that, we made some conker rolling artwork with paint!
