This Week at Coombe Dingle

Nursery

This week in Nursery we explored a colourful rice tray! At first we watched as our adults showed us we could scoop up the rice, using upturned blocks as containers. We then had a go ourselves, moving the blocks through the rice and then pouring it all back out into the tray!

The blocks made another appearance this week as we got stuck into a mess-free sensory activity! The tray was filled with squishy foam and different coloured paints - but covered in clingfilm, so we could explore and keep our hands clean. We used the blocks to move the paint underneath, watching as the colours moved and blended together.

The beautiful weather has continued into this week, so of course there has been lots of free-flow play into our rooftop garden! Some of us loved the transporting activity, picking up the plastic balls with nets to transfer elsewhere. We were also very confident around the physical resources, clambering onto the wooden stools and shuffling across the balance beams - finishing with a big jump at the end onto the ground!

Kindergarten

Kindergarten this week have been taking lots of trips to the Library! As well as exploring the interactive whiteboard and reading stories, we have particularly loved the light up tablets. We discovered how to make marks across the surface with whiteboard markers, which would then illuminate - wow!

We have also been developing our understanding of this month’s Core Book, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The story came to life with three beds, a sleeping goldilocks and of course - three bowls of porridge! We used spoons to move the oats around, and spoke about the story too.

Out in the top garden we have really enjoyed using our binoculars! It was a great opportunity to do some bird spotting, peeking through the viewer and telling our adults what we could see in the sky, trees and rooftops. We saw blackbirds, seagulls and pigeons - wow!

Pre-School

This week is Mental Health Week, so in Pre-School we have been exploring different emotions - in particular, the things we could do if we wanted to change how we felt. We shared ideas for how we can change our mood, from going for a walk, dancing to music or singing loudly! We then passed around mirrors so we could try pulling different faces.

We have also been practicing number recognition! We took a look at some cupcake cases that had a number and colour inside. We were able to recognise the most of the numbers, then used tweezers to explore a big tray of pompoms - finding the right colour, and then counting out the correct amount.

We have also been learning about the Bristol Half Marathon which happened last weekend! Hattie explained that she received a medal after running it, so we all had a go at running laps in the garden - and then made our own medals afterwards!
