This Week at Coombe Dingle (W/C 31st May 2021)
This week at Coombe Dingle, babies have been keeping cool spending lots of time outside! Some children explored a tray full of dried pasta, pouring it into bowls and moving it around with their hands. Babies also explored water balloons this week, squeezing them with their hands and discovering what happens when they POP…splash! Back inside in the art studio some children have been making masterpieces with stamps and dabbers, exploring the different shapes and patterns they can make on paper.
Kindergarten have also been keeping cool with some water and ice play! The children used cups to scoop up the icy water, pouring it on to the ground (and themselves, and the Kindergarten staff…) and watching the ice melt in the sun. Back inside Kindergarten explored salt dough, using it alongside lots of different tools and objects. Some children used rollers and cutters to shape the dough, whilst some pressed into it with sticks and fir cones, leaving patterns. Kindergarten also had a special surprise this week, as the caterpillars they have been looking after have transformed into butterflies! The children took turns to observe them in their container, feeding them fruit and eventually releasing them into the wild!
Pre-School this week have been on a mini-camping trip! The children gathered sheets and blankets, working together to hang and drape the fabric to create dens. They then role played with a campfire, toasting marshmallows and chilling out in the hammock! Back inside Pre-School have been reading in the library, choosing from a selection of books about starting Big School. The children talked about how they feel about starting school, if they are excited, worried or happy! Pre-School have also been making art outside this week, using spray bottles filled with paint. The children sprayed the water across the paper, and discovered how the colours mix together as it ran down to the bottom!
