This month in Flax Bourton we have been exploring sensory play! We have been playing in Sand Land in and outside the room, we have been scooping and pouring to make sandcastles and different animals. We have been enjoying the different textures within the room we had spaghetti hoops to feel a soft slimy texture and to celebrate Charity day - with our very own Charity! We have also been playing with shaving foam and different cereals.
Throughout the month we have also been participating in different activities around our core book ‘Shark in the Park’. We created a beach for the sharks to swim in and to find the sharks with our magnifying glasses. We have also been making our own telescopes to look up down and around for our own sharks. In the garden we have enjoyed splashing up and down in puddles after watching the rain land on our terrace we like listening to the sounds of the rain.
To end the month we enjoyed building towers as tall as we could reach and knocking them back down again! We have looked at many books with animals in to learn about the different animals and the sounds they make. Lastly we have been practicing our walking and using our walker to gain confidence and learning how to walk independently!
In Kindergarten this month we have been interested in creating and making pictures with paint! On the decking we are able to be independent in choosing the colours we wanted to use and putting them into the pots ourselves. We have learnt about the process of what happens when two colours are mixed together. We learnt that if we mixed red and yellow together it made orange.
In our outdoor spaces this month we have been developing our ability to play using our imagination. On the large climbing equipment we like to pretend the balancing logs are a train, bus or plane. We pretend we are going to the beach or off on holiday. We take tickets, sing songs and talk about what we might see on our journey.
Around the garden we have lots of areas that are always helping to support and extend our learning as we play. This month we have become more confident with our numbers and counting. We can talk about how many cakes we have made in the mud kitchen, what numbers we can recognise on the fence or how many friends we can count when we line up.
We have also been interested in exploring with loose parts and fidget toys. These toys help to support our fine motor skill development and our hand eye coordination. We have also used the loose parts to complete threading activities, colour match and sorting by size.
We have been creative with different mark making media like sequins, stickers and crayons we have used these items to make some lovely pictures.
We have also played with our friends and read books together, practiced chopping food, looked after our babies and explored in the dressing up box!
This month in Pre-School the children really enjoyed playing games related to our Core Book of this Term - Elmer the Elephant. They had fun listening to Elmer the Elephant stories, reading Elmer the Elephant books and making dens with our soft toy Elmer!
During Time Together children also learned how to create pictures of Elmer, using the magnetic tiles. We then created an amazing giant Elmer using glue and coloured tissue paper, making a fantastic collage - everyone joined in and helped, it was a great group effort!
Children were also excited to be inducted onto our Woodwork Station and learned our Woodwork Promises: Nurture, Trust, Respect, Alliance, Inspire, Sustain. These Promises are the things we say to keep ourselves safe. Children being inducted learned how to use the Woodwork Station effectively, use tools carefully and gently, look after tools and treat them with respect. After banging in nails and creating their own pieces of art using wood, nails, buttons, beads and bottle tops - the children were really proud of what they had made.
During outside play in the garden, children made the most of our wet and rainy weather by jumping in muddy puddles and had amazing fun playing as Pirates during National Talk Like a Pirate Day. Everyone came in fancy dress as Pirates!
