Nursery

This month in Nursery we celebrated Grandparent's Day with style! Some of our grandparents came to visit us in the nursery, it was so exciting to show them were we learn and play and meet our friends. We had lots of fun decorating oat cakes with cream cheese and raisins!

We've also wrapped up in our waterproofs and warm coats to go on some trips to the park. We have a great understanding of how to use the different apparatus now, using the swings and slide and running across the grass!

We also went on a special trip to the local farm, with some of the older children from Kindergarten and Pre-School. The farm currently has a pumpkin patch, and we were given the chance to feel the texture of the pumpkins and explore the different sizes and shapes.

Back inside we have been getting messy exploring foam with dinosaurs, exploring mark making with flour, and doing some colourful painting to celebrate Diwali. We've also got stuck into some Halloween themed crafts, using apples to print a pumpkin shape onto the tray!

Kindergarten

This month in Kindergarten we have been exploring the seasonal changes! We have explored the leaves that have fallen on the ground in our garden - throwing them up in the air, watching them fall down around us and feeling the texture with our hands. We have also been searching around our garden for bugs and insect we could find. We pointed to the pictures naming what we were able to see. We also have been looking at our plants growing big and tall!

Also this month we have been on lots of outings. We went on the bus and visited our local fruit and vegetable shop, where we walked around and picked some different fruit and vegetables we wanted to try. We also went to the farm and saw lots of different animals. We then picked a pumpkin to take back to nursery ready for Halloween!

We have engaged in lots of mark making this month doing lots of creative painting. We used different mark making tool such as straws, stamps and paint brushes to create lovely pictures. We even tried painting a pine cone too which was a little tricky as it's didn't stay very still!

Lastly this month we have had a lots of Autumnal tuff trays set up so we can explore the season. We have tried drawing pumpkins, leaves, pine cones, acorns. We used stencils too and adults showed us how to do them. Some of us picked up the heavy pumpkins and felt the texture of them with our hands.

Pre-School

This month we celebrated all things Autumnal! We searched for leaves in the garden and created a lovely leaf picture that now decorates our Pre-School room. We also created playdough hedgehogs using dried pasta - to learn about hibernation. We created nests of leaves for the hedgehogs to sleep in! We also went on a nature walk to the local woods looking for sticks, with lots of outdoor fun - noticing Autumn colours as trees leaves turn shades of red, yellow, orange and brown.

For a fun cooking activity this term we created Elmer the Elephant pizzas in the dining room! Everyone took turns at making pizzas, we dressed correctly for cooking safely - wearing our hairnets. Then using an Elephant shaped cutter, we carefully cut our own Elmer from pitta breads, prepared the tomato base and decided what toppings to layer on. It was really fun choosing all the different food toppings, then adding the cheese! When the pizzas were cooked, we ate them at snack time - they tasted great!

During Space Week we painted all the different planets in the Solar System to hang up in the room, and created satellite collages. We enjoyed creating our own space pictures, exploring colouring, cutting and sticking. We also made rockets in the construction area and looked at our big space book!

We ended the month celebrating Diwali - the Hindu Festival of Lights, with lots of fun activities during the five days of the festival. We created our own Henna designs, painted Henna patterns, read books about Diwali and explored filling Rangoli patterns with coloured rice to create beautiful patterns.

We have started to celebrate Halloween too. We went with some children from the other rooms on a trip to the local farm shop to buy a pumpkin. We then headed back to pre school to carve it, exploring what we found inside!
