This month in the nursery room we have been so busy! We started the month learning about Bristol Balloon Fiesta. We created our own balloons, and also watched a documentary watching the balloons go into the sky and see how they light up at night time. We have been busy in the art room decorating and painting our balloons with different resources!
We have spent lots of time outdoors on the terrace and big gardens due to the nice weather. On the terrace upstairs we have explored water play using the half pipes, we watched the water swoosh down and land in a big bowl! We have also been completing a lot of puzzles and learning about the different animals.
Outside in the big garden we have been practicing our balancing on the big bikes trying our hardest to pedal with support from the adults. We have also enjoyed using the big sandpit to build sandcastles and to knock them back down again! We have made lots of scrumptious food for our friends in the mud kitchen. Whilst inside we have been using our role play area to learn about all the yummy fruits and vegetables we eat!
To end the month we have had a lot of activities around the dinosaurs. We helped them escape from the sticky sinking mud to rescue them. We also helped the dinosaurs escape from the erupting volcano. In the room, we have been practicing our walking skills and can now walk whilst holding one hand.
This month in Kindergarten we have learnt about and explored the wonder of Bristol Balloon Fiesta. Some of us were lucky enough to see the Balloons flying over our houses and at the fiesta itself. They were so big! We watched footage of balloons on our interactive screen, made and decorated our own air balloons out of card and blew up some balloons and watched them as they floated across the ceiling.
We had some new sensory toys arrive this month as well and we have been really focused and engaged with playing with them. We like the way the toys click, stretch and move about which helps build up our finger muscles and keeps our hands busy. We then incorporate these movements into our play to support us with fine motor skills when we do things such as threading!
Our tuff trays have been set up this month with some lovely activities that have been based around our interests including cars, paint, water and gloop. We then use lots of different resources from Kindergarten to make, create and imagine a variety of play ideas in these trays. We have also worked on our colouring and mark making skills with the crayons, our building skills with the magnetic shapes and our song writing with the musical instruments.
Lastly this month we have been learning about keeping our teeth healthy and how we look after them. Some of us took part in a group activity where we all explored our teeth in the mirror and gave them a brush. Alongside this we have read development stages books about teeth brushing and toilet training independently and in small groups. These books support our learning and understanding of some of the next steps we will be taking as we grow up and get bigger!
This month we have been really busy with lots of activities and trips out into the community!
The children have been so excited so sport the hot air balloons in the sky this month. They have been coming into Pre-School to share what shapes they spotted - we were most excited by Oggy the Dragon! They have been busy creating their own hot air balloons, with different art resources.
Pre-School also celebrates International Cat & Dog day in August. Our families helped out by sending in photographs of their pets, which the children shared with the group - talking about their names, colour, and what they are like. The children also drew their pets!
Pre-School have been cooling down with lots of ice cream imaginative play. They have been creating pretend ice cream with shaving foam. They have really been enjoyed decorating their ice with food colouring and sprinkles!
It was time to harvest our potatoes that we have been growing over the last couple of months! Katie tipped the bucket of mud into a tuff tray and the children really enjoyed searching for the potatos in the mud.
Pre-School have been making lots of potions this month outside in the garden. They have been using natural materials from around the garden to add to their potions!
We have been on lots of trips with month to our local area. Some children have hopped on a bus to Nailsea library to explore the books they have there. We have also been down to the local park to play on some of the play equipment!
