Nursery
This month we have been exploring Term 1's Core Book, Dear Zoo! We really enjoyed listening to the adults tell us the story, extending our understanding by using the teddy props. We liked matching the animal soft toys to the ones we spotted in the tale.
We have also been having fun playing with bubbles! We used the bubble machine at first, chasing them around the room to pop them. We've also had a go at making our own bubbles, carefully blowing through the wand to create them.
In the art room we repurposed some recycling, using cardboard inner tubes as stamps. The adults showed us how to press on end into paint and then onto paper, to create a repeating pattern all across the page!
Autumn is on it's way but out in the garden we are still caring for our plants and trees. It has been quite dry and warm so we made sure to give our plants a good water from the watering can!
Kindergarten
In the last month we made the most of our last few weeks of Term 6’s Core Book - Handa’s Surprise! We enjoyed reading about her travels and seeing what we could remember from last time. We learned about lots of different animals and fruits and had all the toy animals to help us tell the story!
We’ve been really interested in bugs this month and have seen all different kinds of insects come out with the changing seasons. We saw what we could see living in our bug house in the garden and enjoyed indoor trays full of mud and leaves, full of creepy crawlies! We used magnifying glasses to spy on the little insects but there were some larger bugs we could see too.
We’ve been enjoying developing our physical skills indoors and outdoors. Indoors we’ve been practising our cutting skills and have challenged ourselves to cut lots of different lines. Outside we have loved making obstacle courses, testing our catching and throwing skills and pulling our friends around in the wheel barrow!
This month we’ve been exploring maths in lots of different ways, using magnet tiles to identify order and shape, beginning early number recognition, using weighing skills and counting using counting cubes. It’s been another fun month of exploring different tuff trays - we got creative on Bow Tie day where we decorated our very own giant bow tie in the tray and we explored a small world dinosaur tray where we learned different dinosaur names. One of our trays were themed all around pants, we read potty training stories, decorated our own pants and even practised putting them on baby dolls!
Pre-School
At the end of August we said goodbye to all our school leavers - we wish them well and they will have lots of fun at all their new schools! Then we welcomed in all our new children from Kindergarten, helping them to settle into the new room and routine, build bonds with their new key people and having lots of fun.
We had some tuff tray activities this month, inspired by our core book The Colour Monster - we found lots of different coloured items and put them in the middle and the children were challenged to to sort out the colours of how they were feeling. Another activity was 'I Spy' where they children had to find the object and match them to the picture!
We made artwork inspired by stained glass window, cutting out lots of different shapes from colourful cellophane and gluing them onto a frame. When we looked through we could see things in different colours - wow!
Outside we made a fantastic car using all our wooden blocks and materials, and worked hard together to do it as a team. From pots and pans we decided to make our own Red Bus band, and tapped out different sounds as we sang our favourite songs!
As they weather is changing we went on a bug hunt in the vegetable patch to see what insects we could find and our adult noted things we saw! We used our new natural shape pictures and numbers that have been displayed around the garden, and we went on a hunt for those too. We counted how many bugs and insects we could find!
Lots of apples had fallen onto the floor from our tree, and so we used our imagination to pretend we were around a camp fire toasting marshmallows - yummy!
