October

Nursery

It's been a busy month for us here in Nursery! We have been exploring the new mirror resources. We've learned to hold these up so we can see our faces, and full different facial expressions - lots of laughing and smiling! This helps us develop our sense of self and identity, as well as exploring feeling and emotions.

There has also been lots of sensory invitations to play! We got stuck into a farm themed tray, which was a great opportunity to develop our vocabulary and communication. We could name some of the farm animals, and even recall the noises they make! Our Sand Land and Water World areas have also been busy this month as we explored the different resources such as the scoops, spades, buckets and jugs.

Kindergarten

We've had a busy month in Kindergarten as we've observed the changing seasons from Summer to Autumn. This has meant lots of exploration around the changing colours in our environment and colours in the trees. We've loved playing around in them, throwing them up in the air and watching them float down, we've then enjoyed collecting the leaves and using them to create some beautiful autumnal "glass" pictures.

Our outdoor fun has continued and we've been loving mixing paint and water and mark making on the ground in our garden - we love experimenting with colour! In our outdoor kitchen we've been making meals with our friends out of gloop, lentils and leaves - yummy! On stormier days, we've enjoyed visiting the sensory room. We've stamped on sensory tiles and watched the colourful liquid within move disperse and move. The bubble sensory lamp was fascinating to watch and we loved playing engaging games on the interactive board.

This month we also welcome Grandparents into Kindergarten to celebrate Grandparents Day. It was lovely to see some new family faces and give more family members the opportunity to visit Red Bus and see all the fun we get up to! We painted coasters, made beautiful pictures, investigated a construction tray of rice and pasta and of course, exploring the playdough station! Our tuff trays this month have been very exciting, we've begun our Halloween celebrations with a spooky orange and black tuff tray, and of course, lots of tuff trays. We have also loved our Gruffalo tuff tray, inspired by one of Kindergarten's favourite Julia Donaldson books!

Pre-School

This month we have been noticing the change in seasons, and the ways we know Autumn is coming! Outside in the garden the trees have started to shed their leaves, so we have had lots of fun heaping them into piles, throwing them up into the air and trying to catch them again!

We took this interest further back inside with some Autumnal sensory trays. We explored colourful rice, noticing it was all orange, red and yellow - like the leaves outside. Elsewhere we used shaving foam, food colouring and other bits to make lovely squishy 'cup cakes'. As we did this we spoke about our favourite flavours!

Outside on the wooden jumping blocks we showed off our jumping skills, finding out how high we could go and make big stretches in the sky! This showed lots of confidence and we were really proud of ourselves for trying.

We celebrated the Jewish festival of Shemini Azteret with a fantastic tuff to explore, and celebrated World Food Day in the dining room by choosing from different fruit to eat.

Finally in the art studio we explored colour mixing! We got stuck in with our hands, pressing each hand into different colours and then onto paper to leave a hand print. We then tried mixing the colours together between our palms, discovering this could create a brand new colour - wow!
