This Month at Downend
November

Nursery

It’s been a busy month here at Red Bus!

We loved celebrating Halloween and joining in with lots of creepy crafts and getting stuck into themed sensory trays. We got to explore a real pumpkin, using our hands and spoons to get inside and feel the squishy texture - wow! We also explored potion themed water play, using the pipettes to carefully pick up and squeeze out the coloured water.

On the 11th November it was Remembrance Day, so we created our own poppies using halved apples. We pressed them into red paint and then onto the paper, adding a black circle to make the middle! We also got stuck into a sensory tray, where we explored transferring the rice into jugs using our hands and scoops.

We've been developing our independence and confidence at snack time! The adults supported us to prepare our afternoon snack, as we peeled the satsumas and even sliced up the banana using the child-friendly knives. Megan and Abi sat nearby and helped us to start with, but then eventually we had a go on our own, then enjoyed our yummy snack!

We've also had lots of fun in the garden, crawling through the tunnels and making music with the instruments. We've also had another busy time saying goodbye to our older friends who are moving down to Kindergarten - we wish them the best of luck in their journey!

Kindergarten

We have been very busy this month! We have welcomed new friends from nursery into our room and had lots of fun helping them settle and build bonds. In Kindergarten we always love messy play, and have had lots of messy things out in the tuff tray to celebrate Halloween and other festivities - we love getting stuck in!

The big garden is always a hit as the children love to climb and run around. We have been making lots of things in the mud kitchen which have been delicious, talking to our peers and adults about each step of the cooking process - mixing our mud in a bowl, placing it into the oven and then dishing it up!

Our Core Book this term is "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" so we have been exploring this story in depth. We particularly enjoy the interactive noisy book, where we press the buttons to hear different sounds! We've also been exploring other books too, independently and with our adults.
