Nursery
This month we have shown a real interest in our wooden abacus! At first we experimented with moving and spinning the beads, which we thought was so funny - then the adults named the colours of them out loud as we pointed to them. We then tried moving a bead at a time along the line, counting out loud - 1,2,3!
In the art studio we explored toy vehicles and paint. We chose from different cars and lorries, and the adults showed us how we could move them across the paper to make marks. We really enjoyed the repeated back and forth motion and experimented with lots of different colours!
We have also been exploring our Core Book ‘My Body’ which is all about different body parts. After reading the book, we were challenged to find our eyes, nose, feet and more! We also incorporated mirrors into our play, looking at our reflections and playing ‘peekaboo. This helps us gain a sense of self! This understanding followed us out into the garden, as we explored the small world animals. We excitedly pointed out that each of the animals had ears, legs, noses - and again pointed to our own body parts too!

Kindergarten
We’ve been excited to come back to Kindergarten after Christmas and spend time role playing in the yurt. We’ve been doctors taking care of poorly babies, explorers and even a baby shark!
This month has been a busy month of construction activities, magnet tiles have provided endless opportunities for building so we followed this interest with a construction themed tuff tray. We’ve also loved big roads and racing different vehicles across them with our peers. We’ve been taking part in lots of activities that support making relationships with the other adults and children in the room such as ball games, parachute games, science experience and story times.
Another activity we have loved recently is mark making in lots of different ways, we have used lots of different felt tips to mark make at the art table, we’ve mark made using whiteboard pens on the big whiteboard and even mark made in flour and sand trays!

Pre-School
This month in Pre-School we’ve been developing our literacy skills with a letter matching game! In the game we had to choose a word, and then find all the correct letters that match the ones in our word. We took it one letter at a time, looking closely at the shape of each one and if we could spot the copy in the pile. Once we built our whole word we said it out loud - some of them were really tricky, and we did a great job!
We decided to create a portrait gallery in Pre-School this month, so we have spent time drawing our own self portraits. This led to lots of great conversations about our similarities and differences, both between all of us here in Pre-School and sharing about our families at home. We spoke about how we are all different and amazing in our own ways!
There has been lots of fine motor skill development with the arrival of our construction straws! We learned how to fit the straws together with the connectors, gradually building up 2D and 3D objects and excitedly sharing the resources with our peers.
We have also been getting creative with our toy vehicles! We decided to draw a road map on cardboard for them to explore, this was a great opportunity to share our knowledge of our neighbourhoods. We added traffic lights, zebra crossings, a police station and a school. We talked about how we use zebra crossings to safely cross the road, and how we should always stop, look and listen before we cross!
