This Month at Coombe Dingle
February

Nursery

During this month, we have been very busy exploring a variety of different activities, we have had so much fun!

We have been exploring the third room where we get messy and creative. We made marks with paint and our building blocks, allowing us to get messy and creative!

Our adults set up a tuff tray activity for us based on our Core Book - We're Going on a Bear Hunt. We walked over with great big smiles on our faces ready to explore! We climbed into the tuff tray which was filled with different textures and resources including pasta, cotton wool balls, cereals, gloop and grass. This helped us engage all our senses as we touched, smelt and listened to the different noises the pasta and cereals and leaves made. We also enjoyed popping our socks off and popping our feet into the tuff tray. We picked the pasta and cereals up and began to crunch them in our hands! The big bear was also hiding in the tray along with all the different characters from the story. We recognised some of them!

We took a little trip to our roof top garden too! We always have so much fun in the garden and really enjoy the fresh air and lots of space to run around. Our adults supported us by popping our coats and shoes on for us, so we would keep warm whilst exploring. We were so excited! We used our imaginations and cooked some yummy food on our mud kitchen, using a range of different utensils to stir  ingredients in our pot and pans. We then explored bikes and used our gross motor skills to explore!

We also noticed a tuff tray set up for us to explore which including numbered crabs and fish nets. We found it a little tricky to hold the net at first, so our adults supported us. After this, we managed to grasp onto the nets to explore the activity! When we realised we could do it we were super excited and were occupied for a long period of time. We caught so many crabs come the end. We also counted them as we popped them back in to the tray with our adults support. As we popped them back into the tray, we waved and said 'good bye crabs'!

Kindergarten

This month in Kindergarten we have enjoyed getting really messy with lots of invitations to play!

We have been exploring different textures in the tuff tray. One of our favourite activities was a chocolate-themed tuff tray to celebrate National Chocolate Cake Day - yum! The tray was filled with flour and a little cocoa powder, we mixed it together and got it all over our hands. The adults encouraged us to use our words to share what we were experiencing - what could we feel, hear and smell? This was a great way to develop our vocabulary and communication skills!

We have also been spending time exploring the outdoors. We took a trip to the local park which was very exciting, we wrapped up warm and held hands with the adults on our way there. There was lots to talk about on the way, and once we arrived we explored all the different activities - climbing, sliding and balancing!

Back at Red Bus we had a go at making our own fruit salad for snack. The adults supported us to use the 'dog knives' which are made just for children. We were able to cut our pears, apples and bananas into small pieces and add them to the bowl. After a big stir it was ready to eat! This really helped us with our independence, and building our confidence that we can do things on our own.

Pre-School

This month in Pre-School we have been getting outside soaking up the winter sun! All wrapped up in our warm coats and hats, we explored playing ball games. We stood in a large circle and practiced throwing and catching the ball between us. We then tried a version of the game 'duck duck goose' with the ball. This was great for learning about cooperation and turn taking!

In the top garden we went on a little scavenger hunt - what were we looking for? Numbers! There were lots of numbers hidden around the place - some high, some low, and some at eye level. We showed great observation skills, excitedly pointing out whenever we found one and even being able to recognise which number it is.

Our Core Book this term is 'Shark in the Park' so we made our own telescopes just like Timothy Pope's! After decorating our cardboard telescopes, we went on a phonics hunt around Pre-School. We found different letters, then guessed what object might be hiding behind that starts with that letter.

We also took a visit to the Library this month! After the walk, we sat outside for a quick snack before heading in. We loved looking at the shelves and boxes full of different books, and managed to read quite a few! We also learned about the different genres of book, as well as the different things you can in the library.

Down in the dining room we learned about doctors and nurses! We looked at our real first aid kit, and talked about how the things contained in it can help us feel better when we are hurt. We then played with our toy version! We role played in our GP Surgery, with our toy dolls as patients to look after.
