One of the underlying principles of The Children Act 1989 is that the welfare of the child is paramount at all times. As nursery staff we have a responsibility and a duty to help protect and safeguard the children at all times whilst in our care.

At Red Bus Nursery & Pre-School we will ensure that our service is fully inclusive in meeting the needs of all children. We recognise that children and their families come from diverse backgrounds. All families have needs and values that arise from their social and economic, ethnic and cultural or religious backgrounds.  Children grow up in diverse family structures that include two parent and single parent families; some children have two parents of the same sex. Some children have close links with extended families of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins while others may be more removed from close kin or may live with other relatives or foster carers. The Coombe Dingle Nursery opened in 2011 and started the Red Bus journey. It is a fantastic purposely designed setting with no compromises on internal and external space. Spacious, free flowing, bright and very welcoming, internally the setting retains wonderful character, from interestingly shaped windows to beautiful ceilings. In April 2018, we gained the outstanding rating with Ofsted.

Practitioner Nursery (Permanent Position)

Full Time – (40 hours per week between the hours of 7.30-18.30 all year round)

Our Nursery Unit can have up to 37 children a day between the ages of  3 months – 2.5 years. You would be a key person to a group of children and would carry out planning, observations and assessments for this group. We are looking for a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in childcare and education.

Assistant Cook (Permanent Position)

Part Time – (20 hours per week between the hours of 13.30-17.30 all year round)

You will be a key member of the early year’s team delivering high quality, safe food and learning opportunities for all children based on health and well being.

A little about Red Bus…
Red Bus currently comprises of two larger settings in Bristol accommodating up to a total of 248 children per day aged between 3 months and 5 years. We are a childcare business who are going places with an ambitious growth plan to open new settings in Bristol. Everything we do is about quality and we are graded OUTSTANDING by Ofsted in both settings.Red Bus Nursery & Pre-School Downend is a beautiful Grade II building having had a complete restoration to create the fantastic purposely designed setting it is today with no compromises on internal and external space including a 21 foot glass wall Yurt. The setting serves Downend and surrounding areas including Frenchay, Emersons Green, Fishponds, Mangotsfield and further afield as we are just 5 minutes from the main ring road. The Nursery can occupy 116 children maximum per day.

We are looking for a like-minded person to join and lead our Downend management team and be part of our journey forwards. Role Purpose

  • You will be responsible for driving the performance and quality of the nursery, leading to reach an outstanding grading with Ofsted. You will accept nothing less than the highest standards and ensure you have the best team in place to deliver this.
  • To lead and manage the staff team in terms of strategic direction and day to day operations. To proactively develop staff to meet their full potential ensuring they are suitably trained, coached and encouraged to flourish within Red Bus.
  • To foster a culture of continuous improvement throughout, proactively driving the setting and the practice forward.
  • To be an expert and take a lead role in everything Red Bus including all Red Bus policies and procedures. Work closely with other Managers in determining and developing policies, procedures and practice, promoting collective responsibility for their effective implementation to the highest standard.
  • To develop and manage successful budgets against target working to strategic financial goals to meet the sustainability of your setting and the Red Bus objectives as a company for operating and growing.
  • Responsibility for the safety, security and well-being of all children, staff and visitors at all times. Act as the Designated Safeguarding Person within the setting, dealing with and support any issues as they arise.
  • As part of the strategic management team you will deliver the business plan, develop relationships with other managers and work collaboratively to support the development of Red Bus as a whole, acting as an ambassador for Red Bus at all times

Work experience – Essential
Minimum five years of nursery experience in a management role
Experience within the Early Years Foundation Stage
Knowledge of Ofsted regulations and inspection criteria, understanding of how to achieve ‘outstanding’
Proven experience in managing a large staff team
Identifying problems and creating solutions

Qualifications – Essential
NVQ level 3 or equivalent Foundation Degree or BA in Early Years
Statutory requirements of legislation concerning Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, SEND and Child Protection
Experience of using IT and systems in nurseries

Unit Manager (Permanent Position)

Full Time – (40 hours per week between the hours of 7.30-18.30 all year round)

We are looking for an enthusiastic, bubbly and dynamic Unit Manager working with children from 3 months upwards.

You would be a key person to a group of children and would carry out planning, observations and assessments for this group. We are looking for a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in childcare and education and management experience is essential.
